It could be the case in Portland, like Boulder, that because their universities are some of the most interdisciplinary in the nation, they already has a highly effectively, highly networked entrepreneurship ecosystem.
As a researcher on a study conducted in 2012 by Shirley Vincent at NCSE in Washington DC I found Oregon State University to be the most interdisciplinary (a sign of advanced networking and collaboration skills). University of Oregon has a similar bent.
